We're on a mission to save travelers from expensive parking mistakes across Europe
"No one should learn parking rules the expensive way. We exist to transform parking from a source of anxiety and fines into a confident, stress-free part of European travel."
FreeParkingCity was born from a frustrating reality: millions of tourists get parking fines every year because information is scattered, confusing, or only available in local languages.
In 2023, tourists in Italy alone received over 2.5 million parking fines, totaling more than β¬200 million. Most of these fines could have been avoided with the right information at the right time.
The story that started it all:
A friend of ours drove through Rome following GPS directions. Six months later, three fines
arrived totaling β¬699. She didn't know about ZTL zones. The information existed, but it was
hidden in Italian-language PDFs and government websites. That moment sparked an idea:
What if we made this information accessible, clear, and free?
We research, verify, and present parking information for European cities in a way that's:
We verify information from official sources and update content when rules change. If we're not sure, we say so.
Parking information shouldn't be locked behind language barriers or paywalls. We make it free and clear.
We don't just tell you where to parkβwe teach you how to read signs, understand zones, and make smart decisions.
We learn from travelers' real experiences. Every story helps us improve our guides and help the next person.
We start with official sources: municipal websites, parking authority regulations, police departments, and traffic codes. We cross-reference multiple sources to ensure accuracy.
Whenever possible, we verify information on the ground. We check parking signs, test GPS coordinates, and document actual conditions.
We incorporate real experiences from travelers. If someone reports a change or issue, we investigate and update our content.
Parking rules change. We monitor news, city announcements, and user reports to keep information current. Each guide shows a "Last Updated" date.
When information is uncertain or subject to local interpretation, we say so. We never present opinions as facts.
Independence: Our content is created independently. While we use advertising to sustain the site, it doesn't influence our recommendations or information.
Privacy: We respect your privacy. We use minimal data collection and comply with GDPR. See our Privacy Policy.
Accuracy Disclaimer: While we strive for 100% accuracy, parking rules can change unexpectedly. Always verify locally. See our Terms of Service.
To be clear:
FreeParkingCity is built and maintained by a small team of travel enthusiasts, researchers, and developers who share a common frustration with European parking complexity.
Our backgrounds: We've traveled extensively across Europeβby car, by motorhome, and by rental vehicle. We've made parking mistakes, received fines, and learned the hard way. Now we're sharing that knowledge so you don't have to.
Contributors: We also work with local contributors in various cities who provide insights, verify information, and alert us to changes.
We'd love to hear from you! Whether you have questions, feedback, corrections, or stories to share, reach out:
