Do not drive into old Naples. The centro storico is a ZTL (limited traffic zone) with cameras on the gates every day from 09:00 to 17:00; the Via del Sole gate stays live until 22:00, or 02:00 at weekends, and Piazza del Gesù is shut to cars round the clock. A visitor cannot get a permit, and the fine of roughly €83 to €330 arrives by post. Park at the edge: the station garage on Piazza Garibaldi is €25 for 24 hours.
On the street, the blue lines (strisce blu) cost €2 for the first hour and €2.50 for each hour after, charged from 08:00 until midnight. Pay the meter, never the man in the high-vis vest waving you in.
Scooters in every gap, a crater under Via Toledo
At a Naples traffic light the scooters fill the gaps on both sides of your car, then leave before you do. Under Via Toledo, the metro station that opened in 2012 drops you past a round "crater of light" cut through the ceiling. Down at the Molo Beverello, ferries for Capri and Ischia leave all day.
An hour's queue for two pizzas, and San Gregorio Armeno on a December Saturday
I would not stand an hour in the lunchtime queue at L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. The menu is two pizzas, margherita and marinara, and you take a numbered ticket and wait. Arrive at the 10:30 opening, or eat at Starita.
My second skip is Via San Gregorio Armeno, the nativity-figure street, on a Saturday afternoon in December. The lane is narrow and the crowd shuffles. A weekday morning gives you the same workshops with room to look.
Starita a Materdei, fried and then baked
Starita a Materdei has made pizza in the Materdei quarter since 1901, and Sophia Loren played a pizza-maker there for De Sica's L'oro di Napoli. Order the montanara: the dough is fried, topped with tomato and smoked provola, then finished in the oven. It is a short walk from the Archaeological Museum; I do the museum in the morning and the montanara for lunch.
Pay the meter, not the man in the vest
Unofficial attendants (parcheggiatori abusivi) point you at a space and expect a coin or two. It is illegal, it buys you nothing, and the blue-line fine still applies if the meter is unpaid. In September 2026 the carabinieri reported six of them on Via Orsini and Via Cuoco, and names the Vomero and Chiaia too. My rule: if someone waves me in, I drive on to a garage.
Parking in Naples: Blue lines till midnight, ZTL cameras from nine
The centre is a patchwork of ZTLs. Centro Antico: the Via Duomo, Via Miroballo and Via Santa Sofia gates run 09:00–17:00 daily; Via del Sole Monday to Thursday 09:00–22:00, Friday to Sunday 09:00–02:00. Tarsia–Pignasecca–Dante is 09:00–18:00 daily. Belledonne–Martiri–Poerio in Chiaia flips it: 19:00–07:00 every night. The city's pages would not load for me; two motoring guides agree on these hours. Entering without a permit costs roughly €83 to €330 plus notification costs, 30% less if paid within five days. A hotel inside a zone can often register your plate; ask before arriving.
The blue lines are €2 for the first hour, €2.50 after, 08:00–24:00. Pay coins at the meter, or use ANM's Tap&Park app, EasyPark or Telepass. Guides disagree on Sundays, so I follow the plate on the meter. Not paying is €42 to €173.
My pick is the railway's own garage. Napoli Centrale P5 under Piazza Garibaldi is €2.50 for the first hour, €3 after, €25 for 24 hours, and it closes 01:00–05:00. Its sister P1 Corso Lucci never closes but has no day cap: €3, then €3.50 an hour.
By the harbour, ANM's Parcheggio degli Spalti under the castle walls is €3 for the first hour, €2.50 after; it closes at night, and two guides disagree on when. In Chiaia, Quick Napoli Morelli is open 24 hours with a 2.10 m roof, but publishes only an online day rate "from €49.90". That is a lot of pizza.

Towed in Naples: Ring the Polizia Municipale, then find the depot
First check it was towed, not stolen: the Polizia Municipale operations centre is 081 795 7111.
When the current service started in 2021 the city listed seven depots, the largest at Via Terracina 197 in Fuorigrotta; the police tell you which one. You need a release slip from the Polizia Municipale, issued 08:00–20:00; outside those hours and on holidays, go to the unit at Via Santa Maria del Pianto.
The city's 2025 tariff for a car up to 1.5 tonnes: €18.77 call-out, €27.60 for loading, €3.31 per km, then storage at €4.42 a day for three days and €8.83 after. Add 30% between 22:00 and 06:00 and on holidays, plus VAT and the parking fine. Same-day collection skips storage, the one bargain here. Bring your driving licence, registration document and insurance certificate; for a hire car, ring the rental company first.

EV charging in Naples: Enel at night, Ewiva at 80 cents, no free kerb
Visiting electric cars pay the blue lines like everyone else. The reduced rate is a residents' permit tied to household income.
Enel's pay-per-use list, valid on Enel and Ewiva stations until 14 January 2027, puts AC charging through its app at €0.67/kWh from 07:00 to 19:59 and €0.52 at night, VAT included. Staying plugged in after charging costs €0.10 a minute. Ewiva's high-power chargers take €0.80/kWh by contactless card since 1 August 2026, the easiest option with a foreign card.
Quick Morelli has 22 kW chargers via the Queenergy app and P1 Corso Lucci has four points; neither publishes a price. For a hotel night I would plug into AC after 20:00.
Where to charge

- Ewiva high-power chargers — €0.80/kWh by card — Ewiva's high-power network, part of the Enel group, about 500 stations in Italy. Since 1 August 2026, €0.80/kWh VAT included with a contactless bank card or phone wallet, at any hour. The simplest option for a foreign card
- Quick Napoli Morelli — 22 kW in Chiaia — Via Domenico Morelli 61/A. 22 kW charging through the Queenergy app inside a staffed 24-hour garage. No kWh price on the garage page, and the space itself is from €49.90 a day online, so I would only use it if I were parking here anyway
Free parking in Naples: Brin for €5, and blue lines that sleep at midnight
ANM's Parcheggio Brin, a multi-storey car park by the port, is the closest thing to free I found. Guides from 2024 to 2026 agree: €0.50 an hour from 06:00 to midnight, minimum €2, maximum €5, and €5 flat from midnight to 06:00, open 24 hours. ANM's site blocks readers; check the board at the barrier. Tram 4 or bus 155 runs along the port to the Molo Beverello.
The blue lines are free from midnight to 08:00: park late, feed the meter by eight. And at Napoli Centrale P5 the first 15 minutes are free for a station drop-off.

15 free minutes at the station
The Napoli Centrale P5 garage gives 15 minutes free for a drop-off or pick-up, enough to unload luggage without a ticket on the dashboard.
